Reflections on “Mystical Moments in Management” — A Beautiful Gathering of Spirit and Scholarship

On November 5, 2025, the MSR Division of the Academy of Management hosted the webinar “Mystical Moments in Management,” and it turned out to be one of the most heartfelt and profound community events I’ve experienced. What began as an experiment in opening space for mystical and spiritual experiences within management evolved into something far more: a shared field of authenticity, wonder, and connection.

A Space of Presence and Authenticity

From the first few minutes, there was a calm yet vibrant energy in the room. Participants from different parts of the world spoke of moments that transcended words — experiences of unity, insight, surrender, or grace that reshaped how they teach, lead, and live. Each story felt distinct, yet together they revealed a deeper truth: that spirituality quietly informs our professional lives, even when we don’t name it.

Collective Resonance

People listened deeply and responded from the heart. Many described a sense of relief — as if something long unspoken had finally found its place. The atmosphere was contemplative, intimate, and alive, what can be called “a shared sacredness of inquiry.”

Gratitude and Continuity

I’m deeply grateful to Jerry Biberman, the MSR Flamekeepers Committee, and every participant who showed up with openness and courage. This wasn’t a conventional academic session; it was an embodiment of MSR’s essence — integrating management, spirituality, and lived experience in ways that heal fragmentation and invite wholeness.

Looking Ahead

The event reaffirmed the need for more spaces like this — where intellect and intuition, research and revelation, can meet. For those who missed it, keep an eye on future MSR “Big Question” gatherings. They’re helping shape a more humane and soulful understanding of leadership and organizational life.

My takeaway (November 7, 2025):
Mystical experience isn’t an abstract idea — it’s a living reminder that meaning and consciousness belong at the center of management. The gathering showed that when we speak from the depths of experience, scholarship becomes soulful, and community becomes sacred.
